The Middle Years Programme

BWYA has been offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme since the very beginning in 2001, so we now have over 17 years experience successfully preparing students to achieve their best and move on to the university of their choice.

Our IB programme begins with Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students in grades 6 to 10. MYP encourages students to inquire, experiment, communicate and make connections. It is designed to help students develop the knowledge, conceptual understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively in both our local and global communities.

Here at BWYA we understand that this period of a student’s life is a vitally important phase of personal and intellectual development. So learning how to learn and how to critically evaluate information is equally as important as learning facts. It is with this in mind that the MYP has been designed with students studying subjects from 8 subject groups, as well as the core areas – Service as Action, Community/Personal Project, Inter-disciplinary Learning, and Approaches to Learning. Curriculum

This period of a student’s life is a particularly critical phase of personal and intellectual development. Learning how to learn and how to evaluate information critically is as important as learning facts. In the MYP, students study subjects from eight subject groups following six Global Contexts, which are Identities and Relationships, Orientation in Time and Space, Personal and Cultural Expression, Scientific and Technical Innovation, Globalisation and Sustainability and Fairness and Development. Students are also required to complete Service as Action activities across the five-year programme. At the end of Grade 10, students then demonstrate all of their learning in their Personal Projects.
